In April 2026, Joe Jackson will release*Hope and Fury*, followed by an extensive tour of the U.S. and Europe. He’ll be performing at Luxor in November!
Joe Jackson, born on August 11, 1954, in Burton-on-Trent, England, grew up in Portsmouth and began performing professionally at the age of 16. After early performances in cafes and restaurants, he received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied composition, piano, and percussion.
In 1978, Jackson had formed the Joe Jackson Band and recorded a demo that led to a contract with A&M Records. Their debut album, *Look Sharp!*, was released in 1979, followed by *I’m the Man* and *Beat Crazy*. In 1981, Jackson explored swing and jump blues with *Jumpin’ Jive*, after which he shifted to a more melodic, Latin-influenced sound with *Night and Day* (1982), which became his greatest commercial success.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Jackson released a series of eclectic albums, including *Body and Soul*, *Big World*, *Blaze of Glory*, and *Laughter and Lust*, while also composing film scores (*Mike’s Murder*, *Tucker*) and collaborating with artists such as Suzanne Vega and Joan Armatrading. His instrumental album *Will Power* and the Grammy-winning *Symphony No. 1* showcased his classical leanings.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Jackson pushed boundaries with *Night Music*, *Heaven and Hell*, and *Night and Day II*. He published his memoir, *A Cure for Gravity*, and reunited the original Joe Jackson Band for *Volume 4* (2003) and the live album *Afterlife* (2004).
Jackson continued to tour and record, releasing *Rain* (2007), *Live Music* (2011), and *The Duke* (2012), a tribute to Duke Ellington featuring guests such as Questlove, Steve Vai, and Regina Carter. His 2015 album *Fast Forward* was followed by *Fool* (2019), which charted in Europe and the U.S. and featured an appearance on *The Tonight Show*.
After a hiatus due to the pandemic, Jackson returned in 2022 with the “Sing, You Sinners!” tour. In 2023, he released *Mr. Joe Jackson Presents What A Racket*, breathing new life into the music of the forgotten Music Hall artist Max Champion. His 2024 tour consisted of solo performances and a full band set featuring material from *What A Racket*.
