When you think of Bollywood, you think of the world’s largest film industry: India. And when you think of Masala, you think of all those curry dishes, made with a magical blend of spices. “Bollywood Masala” is a large-scale dance show that combines film, dance, and Indian cuisine into a festive musical comedy. The show tells the story of the famous Indian chef Mr. Kari Balti, the inventor of on-location catering during the early days of the film industry.

Director Toby Gough and choreographer Mahesh Poojary have created an energetic show packed with lively dances, more than 300 colorful costumes, epic romance, comedy, and hits from Bollywood films such as “Devdas, ” “Lagaan, “Dhoom,” and the Oscar-winning song “Naatu Naatu” from the film “RRR.” This Mumbai-produced show is based on the traditional “masala movie” formula, where genres and emotions blend without hierarchy. The dancers have shared the stage with stars such as Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, and the musicians perform ethnic themes using traditional instruments, such as the sitar, the drum, and the sarangi.
